Christmas Email Templates
Every year (2016 - 2018) before the Christmas season Barbour, a well-known British luxury and lifestyle brand, requested for a new Christmas template that would stand out within the inbox. It was to be created based on their collaboration with The Snowman®, a famous film and picture book. Illustrations and frames from their exclusive TV advertisement was used to create the animated elements as well as being the base of the design for each template per year.
This was the first year Barbour had a collaboration with The Snowman® and was excited to announce their TV advert to the world via email as one of their media avenues. They wanted something different, enticing and also easy to reuse as a Christmas e-card later on.
I created an animated GIF where the snow is slowly melting to reveal the main Snowman image and message to the recipient. Animated snow using CSS was included to make the background look like it's snowing within the email, on older clients or those that don’t support the CSS code, a static snowy background was incorporated as a fallback.
Due to the previous year using a dark theme, we wanted to switch it for this year and inverse the style. A lighter, brighter theme was used where a background image of their illustrated house was used. Animated snow was also incorporated using CSS instead of an animated GIF. I also created numerous animations and cinemagraphs for their campaigns as well.
In 2018, it was the 40th anniversary of The Snowman®. We created a simple template that focused on the woodland animals illustrations and the primary snowy background for the email template. The animation for the video and main hero of the campaign were taken from their TV advert and focused on the protagonist of the story (the little girl).
Using the templates we created, Barbour has edited and used it for numerous campaigns during the 2016 - 2018 winter periods for their Christmas campaigns. Here are some of their real campaign examples built with the designed template.
